I looked at the calendar today
and suddenly I started to wander,
always straight on and without stopping;
under my arm my memories were carried by me,
and with my old suit I began to shout:
this is what I call Carnaval,
wearing my cap
that is taking out all my tears all the time,
and, althought I ever get angry,
when I look at my fancy dress
and it seems to be as it was dead,
I take some more strenght from inside
and give it a sort of new life;
I am just a cheap poor
that is always glad
with a whistle, a song and a plume.
But, you see, I am always happy,
what can I do?
I don't know how to live
if you are away from me,
damn, if I really love,
how much I love you;
it is like it was something awaking inside
when Februry comes to call at my door;
so this way, happily,
I'm carrying my destiny,
and wherever a suitable place is,
just over there I'd stay to sing
my songs to all my people;
I fly off again, with my cap and joy,
spreading music throught out the streets,
giving out strenght to my Carnival
and my whole life to my land.
